What about face oils?
Facial oils are all the rage in the holistic community. But are they ok to use daily? Ok to keep on your skin overnight? What about for acne prone skin types?
Let’s do a little deep dive into face oils and what and who they are best for.
Most clients that come in usually have a face oil at home. Unfortunately, they are using either the wrong oil or in the wrong way. The best oil for most skin types is one that is made of smaller molecules, cold pressed, and is sourced from organic based plants. Honestly, it’s hard to find the right one but that’s where having an expert look at your skin will come in.
As a general rule, argan, sea buckthorn, and jojoba oils are best as the primary oil for oilier skin types. Where coconut, olive, and avocado are best for dryer skin. However, these oils can be used on anyone as long as they are used correctly.
Avocado oil, coconut, and olive can be very nourishing for an acne prone client while they are using their Gua She stone or facial massage (removed afterwards) but I would not recommend it for an every day use. For the dryer client, their skin will love these oils and can use it in the evenings mixed with their moisturizer or on top of their vitamin a serum.
Jojoba, argan, and sea buckthorn are great for acne prone skin or normal to dry but I would only recommend (a few drops) in the evenings or after sun exposure. For dryer skin types I recommend it mixed with their moisturizer in the am and on top or their moisturizer in the evenings.
So, in a nutshell, everyone can use oils but ask your esthetician which one is best for you and how to use it properly and enjoy!
